ELLEN
JOSEPH, CPA

Ellen is a “naturalized” Floridian with over 25 years of experience as a tax professional. She earned both Bachelor and Master degrees in Accounting from the University of Florida. Ellen supports the Firm’s tax practice and provides tax research and consulting as well as technical review of tax compliance. Prior to joining Sarbey, Lexow & Kaufman, LLC, Ellen’s diverse career included roles at two Fortune 500 companies, Director of Tax at a privately held real estate developer, and Tax Manager at a large regional firm. Ellen started her career at a Big 4 firm in Fort Lauderdale.
Ellen has extensive experience in all areas of taxation and specializes in Internal Revenue Code § 4980H – shared responsibility for employers regarding health coverage under the Affordable Care Act. She uses proprietary software for the related reporting requirements of Forms 1094-C and 1095-C and to help clients reduce or eliminate their proposed Employer Shared Responsibility Payments.
Ellen is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accounts. She is a member of the FICPA Federal Taxation and Business Technology Committees. She previously served on and chaired the FICPA’s Industry Section Steering Committee, and served on and chaired the FICPA’s Women in Leadership Committee. Ellen presented “ACA – Employer Provisions Still Apply” in September 2018 at the FICPA Accounting and Business Show in Fort Lauderdale and her article “Debt Renegotiation: Tax Traps for the Unwary Business” was published in the March/April 2009 edition of Florida CPA Today magazine. Ellen has been a tax preparer volunteer with the United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program since 2003.
